INCONSCIOUSNESS- Abstract Paintings that charge and inspire the emotional and unconscious sides of the individuals mental.

This IS our definition of INCONSCIOUSNESS.

Some ponder why we dream that dream that was only once was shown to us in color. Where and when do we connect to our more spiritual selves that connect to God outside of prayer (of course).

Why does he only speak to us at certain times? Some call him the Holy Spirit others say its God himself. And even some will say that we are that next level.

Questions posted twice weekly until the opening.
Then these writings will be displayed during the show.

So I challenge you by asking a few simple questions:

Could God be found communicating with us through our dreams?

Juneteenth Art Exhibition
June 1st – 30th, 2006
Juxtaposition Arts, Obsidian Arts, Homewood Studios
Paintings, fiber art, sculpture and folk art pieces

Opening this Friday, June 2nd at Juxtaposition Arts - an exhibition of paintings by two Milwaukee artists - Mutope Johnson and Ammar Nsroma from ABEA (African-American Artists Beginning to Educate Americans About African-American Arts). This collaborative show is a celebration of the freedom of Juneteenth through Black visual expression and the connections between artists, galleries and cultural groups in the Midwest United States.

An Opening Reception for Mutope and Ammar is on Friday, June 2nd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The community is invited to meet the artists and dialogue with the exhibition organizers.

On Saturday, June 3rd from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Ammar Nsoroma will present an open to the public Community Art-Making Workshop where participants will paint light post art banners to be installed on West Broadway Avenue in the future. Ammar will inspire participants and share his techniques for creating artwork that is rooted in the spirit of the urban environment and the expression of the African Diaspora.

The exhibit and workshop will both take place at Juxtaposition Arts located at 2007 Emerson Avenue North (Emerson and West Broadway) in Minneapolis.

These events are a part of the Minnesota Juneteenth’s summer celebration. For its 20th annual celebration Juneteenth is again partnering with three Minneapolis galleries – Obsidian Arts, Juxtaposition Arts and Homewood Studios – to offer the Juneteenth Art Exhibition, Trip Tick 2. Featured in this years gallery shows are seven Milwaukee artists, members of ABEA (African-American Artists Beginning to Educate Americans About African-American Arts).

[Last year Juneteenth, in partnership with the same three local galleries, presented the work of six Chicago artists from the Southside Arts Collective.]

In addition to the events at Juxtaposition Arts, Homewood Studios and Obsidian Arts will present the following:

Homewood Studios Gallery (2400 Plymouth Avenue) will feature the work of three artists – Chrystal Gillon, Sonji Hunt and Sharon Kerry-Harlan. Opening reception for these artists will be on Friday, June 9th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Sonji Hunt will offer a Family & Community Workshop on Saturday, June 10th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Obsidian Arts Gallery (2948 Chicago Avenue south, Suite 220) will show the work of Della Wells and George McCormick. Opening reception for these artists will be on Friday, June 16th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Because the following day is the all-day Juneteenth Celebration in Theodore Wirth Park, there will be no workshop associated with these two artists.
